Plot[]
The universe is held in danger now that D'Ken Neramani has harnessed the power of the M'Kraan Crystal. Phoenix explains how D'Ken Neramani is making his own universe inside the crystal and everyone will soon be trapped there and how her power is the only thing that can stop him. She turns into her Phoenix-form and flies around the ship of the Starjammers. After transporting the X-Men and Corsair, Phoenix goes back to D'Ken's ship and ends up getting pulled into the crystal. The energy from the crystal causes the ship's destruction and everyone in the vicinity is pulled into the M'Kraan Crystal. Energy from the crystal travels to Earth and causes some disturbance on the surface.
The heroes encounter D'Ken and try to attack him but, due to his new powers from the crystal, D'Ken is unhurt. Major natural disasters storm through the Earth and various heroes try to help the citizens. Back in the crystal, the trapped heroes have to deal with menaces that D'Ken is conjuring up. Phoenix then announces that D'Ken has been destroyed by the power of the crystal and she manages to get everyone back out of the crystal. The Phoenix Force says it chose Jean because her powers allowed it to converse with the crystal better and the crystal's effects are undone. Phoenix announces that it has to sacrifice her life to stop D'Ken and so she flies into the heart of the sun. The X-Men return to Earth and Professor X says he believes that the Phoenix will soon return again.
