Plot[]
The Dark Phoenix, hovering above the roof of the Inner Circle Club's building, pushes all the members of the X-Men off of it. The group survive and gather, formulating a plan of attack. The team go on the offensive but the Dark Phoenix defends against them all. Having worn out all of the X-Men, Dark Phoenix flies off into a space, the event noticed by various super-powered figures. Needing to sustain herself, Dark Phoenix flies into the sun of a distant, uninhabited galaxy, absorbing its energy and imploding it. This is observed by two Shi'ar researchers and so the Shi'ar Empire is alerted to the Phoenix. The empire is afraid of the potential damage the Dark Phoenix may do.
Back on Earth, Cyclops informs the X-Men that the Phoenix has restored her energy through a supernova, as he still has a psychic connection with the being. The team decide to build a machine that will stop the Phoenix. [[Henry McCoy|Beast puts himself up to the task. Elsewhere, the Dark Phoenix returns to Earth and visits the house where Jean's parents live and where she grew up. Gambit manages to place a mind control device on the Dark Phoenix's head but this backfires and leads to another fight between the X-Men and the villainess. Professor X arrives and engages in a mental battle with the Phoenix Force, inside Jean's head. Jean manages to overthrow the dominance of the Phoenix in her mind but the Shi'ar arrive to arrest Jean.
