Plot[]
The X-Men attend the funeral of Jean Grey, who, possessed by the Phoenix Force, flew into the Sun last episode. Afterwards, Cyclops goes back into the X-Mansion and weeps over a hologram of his dead lover. He tells Professor X that he is leaving the team and walks out of the mansion.
Cyclops heads back to the orphanage, where he grew up as a child. The orphanage is accidentally set on fire by Rusty, a mutant whose fire-based powers he cannot control. Rusty has been adopted by Zebediah Killgrave but doesn't want to go with him as he thinks he is a psychopath and will torture him. Killgrave shows up and takes Rusty back to his house. Once there, Killgrave, revealing that he is Purple Man, straps Rusty to a table next to Boom Boom and Skids and plans to use his mind controlling powers on these mutants to turn them into his slaves and use them to make himself Governor.
Back at the orphanage, Cyclops sees a news report about Killgrave and his mutants attack on a Governor. Alongside his friend Sarah, who runs the orphanage, Cyclops goes to Killgrave's house and his mutant kids attack the former X-Man. Sarah helps her friend and they foil Killgrave's brainwashing treatment, freeing the mutant teens. Killgrave gets in a helicopter and tries to shoot everyone, before Cyclops shoots down his helicopter. Cyclops goes back to the X-Men and Jean is revealed to be alive.
