The Black Widow is a spider slayer robot originally created by Spencer Smythe.
History[]
The Black Widow was created by Spencer for Norman Osborn as a means to eliminate Spider-Man in return for Alistair Smythe to get a hover chair. The Black Widow was sent to the Hardy Foundation Ball where it mistook Flash Thompson, who was wearing a Spider-Man outfit at the time, for the real hero. The Black Widow took Flash back to OsCorp where Eddie Brock unmasked him live on air. When the real Spider-Man arrived, the Black Widow fought him and started a fire which seemingly killed Spencer. The Black Widow was then dropped into a vat of acid.
Alistair, under the employ of the Kingpin, recreated the Black Widow, as well as invented the Tarantula and Scorpion spider slayers. The Black Widow was sent after Flash Thompson, who Alistair believed to be partly responsible for his father's apparent demise. even after combining with the Tarantula and Scorpion spider slayers, the Black Widow was eventually destroyed by Spider-Man.
