Arnold Brock is also known as the super-villain, Mandarin.

History[]

Arnold Brock once worked as an archaeologist alongside his fiancé, Ilona Vermeer and Wellington Yinsen. In Asia, the trio were attacked by a group of rebels but Arnold managed to escape the attack. He stumbled upon an ancient temple where he found a crashed alien ship and ten jewels. Touching the jewels caused Arnold to turn into Mandarin. Fighting off the Kakarantharaians who guarded the jewels, Mandarin tried to find Ilona and Yinsen but could only find Ilona's rings, which he used to house his jewels. One of the Kakarantharaians, Fin Fang Foom found Mandarin and formed a truce with him.

Some time later, Mandarin founded The Hand and began working with Justin Hammer. Hammer brought Tony Stark to Mandarin, who wanted to use the young inventor to make him a suit of armor. Having also found Yinsen and forcing him to work with Tony, Mandarin had no idea that the two began secretly building a suit of armor for Tony or that it was he who used it to fight Mandarin and escape. Now dubbed 'Iron Man' Mandarin and The Hand began fighting the hero and his new group, Force Works.

Over the years, Mandarin has came close to defeating his arch-enemy, employing tactics like radioactive zombies and trying to use Ultimo. Mandarin once figured out that Tony Stark was Iron Man but the hero managed to fool the villain into thinking he was wrong. Teaming up with Fin Fang Foom, Mandarin almost destroyed the world and was forced to team with Iron Man to stop the alien from accomplishing this goal. After this battle, Mandarin was thought dead to the world and so began travelling the world, in secret, reclaiming his lost rings. Once he found them all, Mandarin launched another attack on Iron Man but was defeated again. After this confrontation, Mandarin lost both his rings and his memory.
